Should I get a Nissan CVT car?

My friendly Nissan agent in Levin who is just a Nissan service centre said to me when I queried the CVT oil changes On a Qashqai that Nissan has no recommendations as to the oil changes but if the car was his he would do it at 60,000 Km intervals. You need to have the correct oils and I would say this is is not a home job.

One thing he did tell me was that the newer CVTs in Nissans are designed for the engine output apparently some of the early one went poof due to the engine output being too great for the CVT to handle (They had a one size fits all mentality)

I do chuckle at the furore over CVTs We were saying the same thing about autos in the 70s

If renault have anything to do with the gearbox design or manufacture give it a very wide berth

So that would be the Teana/Maxima he's referring to.?
