tyre size and recommends for Saab 900 s ng 1993
will need another set of four tyres soon.
the ones on the car are
205/55/ R15
I'm having trouble sourcing some at reasonable cost.

Are there other different sizes that will fit my car, more readily available ? i only do town commuting, with occasional trip to Fairlie in it.

And what should i expect to pay fitted and balanced thanks

The freight is the unknown, but you can ask for quotes.
http://tyreshoponline.co.nz/ http://www.adenstyres.co.nz/ (Kingstar are Hankook's Chinese association)
$100 for a budget tyre add to this freight and fitting/ balancing plus rim cleaning when stripped.

Buy 4 from tyreshoponline and he freights free. He also will ship them straight to tyre shop and will get a good deal to have them fitted and balanced. I always buy from him

Maybe a 195/55 15 will fit. You'll need to find out width of rim and check based on that. If you have a manual it might tell you, it might even advice what other sizes you can use. 195/55 is much more popular tyre and lots around.

It is usually stamped inside the rim so check spare if it's full sized.

Personally, even if mostly round town, I would never put an unknown Chinese tyre on. Don't tell me they are as good as brand names , proper testing shows that's very wrong. If you need to stop quick on wet day.

I'd rather good second hand Dunlop or other name for same money.

If you're rim will be happy with 195 you'll find heaps more available for better money. Try the Firestone Supercars budget tyre.

Check out altenzo at tyre shop online http://tyreshoponline.co.nz/shop/brand/altenzo.html

At least these are widely used in Aussie and made for our conditions.

Indeed if you can find rim size ask them.

Just did a quick Google and on a Saab forum they say 195/65 15 so seems you're in luck.
Is the 205 on car at present? Maybe someone mistaking lay did the wider the better thing.
If you can determine rim size great, but looks like 195 is fine, which gives you heaps of choice. Just get a name brand please.

Oh and it's an old style front driver with heavy engine so still relevant to swap tyres back to front every now and again. Fronts will wear faster.

I wouldn't recommend altenzo. They were horrible on a Mazda 3. Very poor grip

I found the Altenzos I had on my car were fine when brand new, bit quickly lost grip once they wore a little (and I do mean a little, this happened between 5 and 8 thousand kms)

Just put the rego into the beaurepaires site and it will tell you what size you should have. Mind you may not go back to 1993.

Just did some digging and it looks like maybe it should have 205/60R15 or perhaps 195/60VR15 - good luck on finding a cheap 195/60VR.

This might help you sort out a near enough equivalent

Interesting. They seems good and reports I found were typically all over place, few disliked but most loved, and it tends to be haters speak up much more!
Wonder why they didn't suit the Mazda. Must admit I do like a good name on tyres and as motorcyclist am very aware of diFferences in tyres. Saddens me the shit some happily put on their cars

. I think the confusion at the tyre outfits, stems from the different model /version of the base platform.
. i have the basic model Saab NG 2.3 S. the bigger 9000C has the Performance Directional tyres,205/ 60/R15 as does the Turbo Aero HP which has the high pressure turbo, and is a super sports car .
. Then there are the low pressure turbos,set for economy. the lower spec NA 2.3 900 S NG which i have ,is just the plain jane version;
. sometime somewhere a tyre shop has put High performance directional 205/55/R15 on my car, it doesn't have the performance or power to use such tyres ,in my opinion they rob power and economy from the engine,it hasn't got the power to utilize the width and profile.
. but trying to get a tyre outfit to quote for the tyres the manufacture says are correct for the car is like banging you head.
. yeah sell the sucker the most expensive tyre in the book .
i have decided to take the car to CH-Ch as the locals don't or can not get past the Saab badge ,its A GM clone for goodness sake ,not a super car !
. with help of posters ,it appears the car should have 195/65/15

vtecintegra, Feb 11, 9:47am
195/65R15 is ~5% larger diameter than 205/55R15 so if anything is going to make the car even slower accelerating

Maybe give these guys a ring. They might just know.
