Anybody re-chipped a Ranger?

So it will go real well for a short time and then go bang.
Why stress a small engine even more by remapping it, as others have said if its not enough from the start then buy a real ute.
I have my 550 for sale if you want a more powerful ute.

?
the 550 is a smaller higher stressed engine than what the ranger has.

most diesels have room for improvement. tho i recommend others mods to help keep it reliable. remap is a better way as some have a few quirks in the tuning for emissions purposes.

The V9X is a V6 not a 5 cylinder and was built rated at 170kw/ 550Nm in the Nissan, it was rated at 172Kw in the Laguna, its not a smaller rated engine that's been upgraded unlike remapping a smaller output engine to get as much as possible out of it.

exactly.
ford is 3.2L 147kw. somewhat lazy at 46kw per liter compared to the nissan 3.0L 170kw at 57kw per liter.

It is the quality of the block casting/ material, oiling of the engine etc that determines what power/ torque that can be safely extracted.
Aussies 200kw and plus 83nm for stx550 navara.

Only the brave would be trying to tickle up those things, most of the engines in that list are undersize fragile boat anchors as it is, with the possible exception of the V9X. The warranty pages for these products are always an amusing read, they offer comprehensive coverage. of their own product, not the consequences of fitting it! Gives new meaning to the term Four Banger.

Think I'll take the Trade Cert Mechanic post above
as confirmation of my post, over a guy with a username
called skull who flogs dog grooming gear.

Folks definition of success seems to vary greatly.

Thats in standard set up and how it was designed to be rated, if the Ford engine could produce more power efficiency surely Ford would have increased the output from the factory like the Nissan?
You were the one talking about remapping the Ford to produce more output where as the Nissan doesn't need to be remapped in its current rating.

I like the sound of that STX 700, sounds a bit like my new Ram.

richardmayes, Aug 26, 6:36pm
wasn't it all the rage to re-map Rangers for a bit less top-end power and a bit more low-down torque a few years ago? I'm sure I've seen threads about that on here. For people who want to drag trailers to site more than they want to overtake everyone on the highway.

if we tuned the ford up to the navara spec it would be producing more power than the nisssan.

manufactures are limited mostly by emission standards. that depends on what standard its designed for and also what it costs to build.
its common to use lower spec cheaper injection systems on the lower powered engines that still meet emissions standards.
i would not be surprised if the ford uses cheaper injection system than the nissan.
after all the nissan is the limited production flagship engine that they produced for bragging rights. would have far more expensive parts used it compared to the more mass produced and no doubt cheaper produced ford engine.

Sorry, been away.
Brought new in 2011.
Liked it then, still do.
Was looking at getting a new one and the wife said "nothing wrong with this one"
Only 160000k on the cloak.
So gave her a repaint (stone chips and scratches, etc), new mags and tyres, then got DPS to rechip it.

WOW, just wow.

Yes only the 3.0, but a huge difference.
Loaned it to one of our engineers for a trip to HB, and he said he couldn't believe the pick up for overtaking.

They actually fit the V9X into Renault cars and rate them at 172Kw, So you can get a Ford up to the same as a standard Nissan, but you certainly cant get a Ford up to the same as that STX 700, you seem to be missing the point though, the Nissan is Standard at 170kw/ 550Nm before any remapping.

Tickford Australia are taking Ranger PXll's to 169 Kw.
http://www.tickford.com.au/tickford-ranger-power-pack/ Obviously a 'win' to the stx550/700 but the Aussies can get 4 year/ 130K km dealer backed warranted compliant right hand converted F trucks if they have deep enough pockets. http://www.harrisonftrucks.com.au/

I'd rather just keep to my new bus at 276Kw and 1084Nm.
