What 20th century cars would one like to see back in the 2020s with the ev version or the mumbo power efficient foss engine version?

build it yourself, become a hero instead of an dreamer

franc123, Aug 31, 8:12am
HQ Belmont EV, let's be honest here, Holden have never sold the amount of cars they should have in the last forty years since these were discontinued. Two bench seats and rubber flooring should be mandatory.

Mercedes 114, Citroen DS23, Peugeot 504, Renault Fuego, Triumph Mk 2 and a Porsche 928.

Word hero gone backwards if that constitutes being a hero,

edangus, Aug 31, 11:22am
A new RX7 would be good. Maybe a Cosworth Sierra? A tribute Godzilla?
Or a new Torana (Styled to the LJ)?

Vinyl bench seats, just so you can burn your ass when wearing shorts on hot summer days.

I would like an updated Peugeot 504, or any of the RWD Peugeots before they became troublesome with the FWD models.

I had a 404 with 125000 miles on it and you could barely hear it idle.
The 504 had 4 wheel discs and all independent suspension in 1970.
Nice cars back in the day.

djrandomguy, Aug 31, 5:19pm
Have you seen the production ready and soon to be on sale 508 sedan? ooosh, it's a face melter

budgel, Sep 1, 6:52am
I hadn't, so googled it. Looks good! quite Audi like in profile.

hkjoe, Sep 1, 7:08am
Agree with you about both these models. They went for ever in Africa. Probably still some running there. My grandfather's last car was a 504. Very comfortable. My other grandfather's last car was a Riley 4/72. Probably not one to re-invent for the 2020s.

Funny that i did actually ask a guy who does car conversions if he thought of doing EV conversions . He reckons the paperwork would cost more than the job .for all the certs required . Thats presuming you can actually buy the componnents at a reasonable price & have a fat cheque book

A kiwi guy did a Mitzi sigma on diyelectriccar.com.
Yeah not my first choice either.
The original Toyota MR2 or a Honda CRX delsol would be though.

tamarillo, Sep 2, 5:25am
I always maintain my French assembled 504 was the best car I've ever had.

budgel, Sep 2, 6:42am
I loved ours. Comfortable and quite fast on the open road for those days.
Modern cars have much better rust protection though.

One of my Mrs favourite cars too. I got her a 1977 504Ti, in the early 80s, nearly ended in divorce when I sold it. Had about 4 504s and wrecked dozens of them, probably the best of all Peugeots.

franc123, Sep 2, 11:33am
Peugeots "solidarity' as a manufacturer certainly died with the 504, what they sold after in the 1980's and beyond was disposable crap. And yes that includes the 205 and 405 (now sprinting for cover!)

djrandomguy, Sep 2, 3:51pm
Bro, can I call you Bro? , anyway.
The 205 is an icon and the 405 set new standards for how a fwd sedan should behave on a b-road. They made some mud cars in the period between then and now but theirs and Citroens output today is freakin' awesome. The new 508 smashes the styling of anythung in it's class, same the the 308 3008/5008 have done in theirs.
If you've never driven a 205Gti, I suggest you borrow one and hit your favorite backroad. See what happens, it'll be the same as my Uncle [who drives a Skyline] saying, "it's only a 1.9, how fast can it be? ", then holding on for dear life as we went around corners in ways he didn't think possible. The only thing I'd say bad about the 205Gti, is how much it overshadows the 106 which is, alongside it's Saxo twin, an excellent small car.
