Seems to be a few names for basically the same tools . King Tony call it a Star socket set ,looks like a female tork to me . Then there are some advertised as tamper tork . What ever i have seems to work well anyway .

I think tamper torx, are the same but with a pin in the middle, so tools need to have a hole for pin, so they would be best as will fit both tamper and non.

Torx is ok for light duty but the proper Ribe tool is advised for doing jobs like clutch plate, brake parts and head bolts as the Ribe tools have much thicker flutes and handle a lot more torque.

and buy this cable if you service a vag roduct its a must and remember vw dont do electronics like asians they add extra bits in there relays also work different with extra diods cant use a asian relay on a volkswagen groupe car eaven if it fits,

with this cable free lifetime updates you get all the codes and all function any factory scanner from vw has. the tool works like a cb radio with channels.

one think wrong on my passat was the coolant was shot you need a refractometer and a multimeter i have a video on youtube showing how to test if its shot you must flush it with non mineralised water and no chlorine . chlorine is a huge killer never ever add clorinated water to any cooling system of any car.

Thanks for all the tips. I have the correct tools. I know to use the correct fluids, I have had audi products in the family before(but not this old).
Special thanks intrade, I will get that cable. I have obd 1 and 2(bluetooth adapter) cables and programmes for nissan and mazda. This will be a great addition to my kit. A scan is usually the first thing I do when servicing a car.
