Does not matter if its private property or not - you are still insured against liability
The is no excess on claims against liability. IE if you bang into someone and don’t claim on your own vehicle but they claim against your liability portion there is no excess to pay.

Same here, I clipped a LR corner of a work van with my trailer, caused a tiny dent & paint scratch. Got a bill that included 3 corners & a driver's door. LoL.
Incidentally. had to look this up. dint a dent or hollow in a surface. "the soft dints at the top of a coconut ~~ dent a slight hollow in a hard even surface made by a blow or pressure. "there was a hideous dent in the front passenger door"

Yes I had exactly the same as OP. Backed into a car, and broke their tail light. They had no insurance, I have full which includes 3rd party. i made a claim on their behalf to my insurance company and passed on victims contact details to them so insurance co will sort out - that's what I pay insurance for. No excess as not claiming for my vehicle.

personally I would just put in a claim and be done with it. it avoids all the dramas
