Audi engine replacement

bigfatmat1, Nov 25, 9:05am
Prob a long shot but has anyone replaced a long block on a 2019 audi q7 4.0l v8 twin turbo diesel? Just wondering how long it would take.

franc123, Nov 25, 9:32am
No but I'd best estimate a weeks labour. Warranty time is no doubt 22 hours lol.

Making a Youtube video of the process might get a few views.

It is surprising that such a new engine should require replacement.

Petrol put in it ?

Some of the German machinery companies have an "A" team to go and repair the 'early failures'.
In pre-covid days sending a team from Australia to fix something etc.

you look what and how its in there how much crap is attached to it . Then you go look if a older model already was made this way. .
to compair. most like the touareg are whole unit out the bottom Need good lift and heavy trolly you should already have that trolley from leaf battery removals lol.
otherwise you need erwin for audi you should charge insurance for that anyhow to get tsb and all the rest.

Yet there are firms in NZ already that put liners in pipes ? Why did they get an overseas firm ?

same reason as to why and how they cant build a simple tunnel to Fix a road that gets blocked by rubble .
https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/legen-sie-halb-der-gebirgs-seite-auf-senja-insel-nord-norwegen-einen-tunnel-103176441.jpg any other country builds a structure like this but in village i. ot country they close the whole road.

aint got an answer but probably call a audi workshop and ask.Bear in mind, they have specialist tools to do it all and make the job easier and faster,I have seen it done,a one man job.

curlcrown, Nov 27, 2:01am
Is it a job you would want to take on? Can of worms maybe.

bigfatmat1, Nov 27, 5:04am
I actually enjoy jobs like this. Modern audis are nice to work on. I dont see it being a can of worms at all.

budgel, Nov 27, 6:18am
Good on ya mate, the days of holden/ford are over and done!
Have you done any work on Jags?

poppy62, Nov 27, 6:55am
Sign of a very good mechanic. The unknown always scares the crap out of the "Swapatrons".

bigfatmat1, Nov 27, 7:09am
I haven't worked on a jag for years. They are very scarce in this part of the country

Lots of worms, worms being wires & hoses, but yep, swapping over a engine wouldn't be as hard as it sounds.
Easy access as the whole engine bays open with no front to the car.
None of this 'trying to winch it out of the engine bay', it just slots in & out.
Everything is easyish to get to.

Once you remove the old engine, X2, you have a good idea of what order to reconnect what when you put the new engine back in.

Different car etc, but we dropped a v8 bmw diesel, complete with trans, front susp, wiring loom in about 3 hours.
Didn't even get dirty, insurance write off SUV type of thing.
Having a hoist helped.
Piece of p

Did that on my "99 A6 V8 Quattro 'petrol' to get at the broken auto A clutch coming up two years ago. Wasn't easy without good gear. Up on blocks & axle stands & stuff incase it fell off. Must have done something right as still driving it when i can afford the fuel & need to tow something, Never again though. Too old for that lol. Got pics somewhere.

tygertung, Oct 19, 5:41am
You'd want a lot of photos but it might not be too bad of a job as everything should theoretically be new, clean, and not seized in place.
