are they generally no different from any other car on the road these days (except of course for extremely rare exotics, oldies or Volvo's). Anyone have a rough estimate what a CV should set me back on the 98 Passat! Cheers.

depends where you go. if you take it to a fancy european dealership it will hit your wallet hard. unless it is a really specialised job there is really no need, just like any other car really. for the cv try nz cv joints they are reasonably priced and very quick, good outfit. http://yellow.co.nz/y/CV+Joints/NZ+CV%27s+Joints/101033644_8343.html

that does sound excessive, what place was that! will keep in mind never to go there.
