6 x $10 for oil + $20 filter. If they charged less than $100, they are either stupid, desperate or it was the garage owner's mate.

An HP6 filter is worth $35, 12 litres of Royal Purple is around $120, so $155 plus my time which would be 30 mins tops.

s.patete, Nov 17, 4:21am
$80 at oil changes.

trogedon, Nov 17, 4:22am
Depends which car - but I give our Mitsi an oil/filter once a year and I've got it down to 15mins (13mins once!)

Funny, first time I've "heard" that.

Yep I call bull too - although I worked in a toyota dealership on the gold coast, we used to service some landcruisers that had a $1200ish service at 20k, 40k, 60k etc. mainly due to regreasing all the hubs etc. seemed over the top IMO but with these being mines type vehicles they always wanted it done

ninja_man, Nov 17, 6:01am
$100, using fully synthetic oil

savanna71, Nov 17, 6:20am
Where do hear that rubbish from triton first service ie 15000km service is a basic service like anything else $200-$250 and having it done elsewhere doesnt void the warranty at all

pauldw, Nov 17, 6:30am
You can try all the spec combinations here and see if you can get more than $350-$400 http://www.mmnz.co.nz/dealers-and-service/serviceestimate/

well im a mechanic and she wanted to know how much a certain "ford " dealership here in chch charged to do a oil change on her car , I can do it for free + price of oil and filter so about $ 40-50 Valoline oil and filter.
And yes I do consider anything over $120 for a oil change expensive.

franc123, Nov 17, 8:35am
So the point of the excercise was.!If you can DIY for her then who cares what anyone else charges!

brokebloke1, Nov 17, 8:40am
yip but it was entertaining seeing what other people charge around NZ

mugenb20b, Mar 12, 1:56pm
That's what my boss charges me. I'm sure he pays more than that per litre, but for every 200 litre drum of oil he buys from Ripco, he gets extra 20 litres for "free".
