mrfxit, Feb 5, 6:01am
1st off, please explain .
Is this 1 busted gearbox
2 parts adapted together

a18a, Feb 5, 6:11am
It's a fwd gearbox, the pin fell out of the diff and munted up the housing.

shortkiwiboy, Feb 5, 6:16am
A simple TIG welding job take it too an alloy welding shop shouldn't cost too much get a quote off them first

toppo1, Feb 5, 6:16am
hard to give a cost, maybe 1-2 hours labour, depends on how good the parent metal is, if its crap alloy biff it and buy a new one

intrade, Feb 5, 6:21am
you need to strip it all down bwfor welding trever down at port road welded my hilux alloy cast housing when it had a hole from corrosion . would probably be cheaper to get nother gearbox however.

hijacka, Feb 5, 6:22am
Its a honda box.Biff it!

h.e, Feb 5, 6:29am
that is a pain in the arse type job, to start i would drill a heavy plate to bolt it to theres a hour gone, prep it all as in get it super clean where its to be welded cut plates to fit in,thats a hour and i havent started to weld it yet which may take 1/2 hour,i would say 2-2 1/2 hrs +material

a18a, Feb 5, 7:18am
Cheers. Sounds cheaper just to get another box then lol.

petermcg, Feb 5, 8:18am
Bondie mate! bog her up

bobin55, Feb 5, 8:28am
And you could try mendt i think its called comes in a tube about $ 15 bucks it works damm well we keep it in the tool box for just those sort of repairs when raceing as it can be drilled when dry, and it has never failed for us. psmitre 10 has it!

fordcrzy, Feb 5, 8:38am
a tube of JB weld will sort that! LOL

a18a, Feb 5, 10:15am
I will have to patch it up myself and use it till I can get another gearbox since it's the only car I've got atm.

directorylist, Feb 5, 10:21am
If you cant fix it with JB weld its unfixable. :)

a18a, Feb 5, 11:05am
Where does one get JB weld from!

pfemstn, Feb 6, 12:16am
tomuch damage for anything like jb weldsorry you are going to have to biff it!

thejazzpianoma, Feb 6, 4:48am
Hmmmm I wonder if you could build Durafix up enough for that size hole. The great thing with Durafix is it dosn't mind crappy alloy. hang it dosn't even mind muck metal.

I havn't tried building it up that much though. But possibly would work.

lookoutas, Feb 6, 6:09am
It looks like that part has a bit of structural strength to it. Think it needs chucking.

bendean, Feb 6, 10:21am
ha yea bro get the old selleys "knead it" out that outa do it

mrfxit, Feb 6, 9:16pm
If it was sposed to be a custom adapter, yep weld it.
Seeing as it's a stock part, biff it.
Welding WILL distort it / then it will have to be spun true again in a lathe.
IF . You are lucky . it MIGHT still fit & align with minimal hassles.
Cheaper & fasterto get another unit from a car wrecker

lol going through old threads and found this one

I actually did this, it was supposed to be a temporary fix until I find another gearbox, but I still haven't found one. This one hasn't given me any issues after the so many thousands of km I put on it since, so all good haha. knocking on wood

budgel, Nov 26, 6:32pm
"There is nothing quite as permanent as a GOOD temporary repair".

johnf_456, Feb 5, 8:47am
Biff it
