That's what I suggested in post #18.

No they are not silverline.

mate in all honesty by the tone of the questions and the nature of the responses from the OP Suggesting she or her mates lube anything worries me

dragontales, Nov 30, 3:14am
thanks kazbanz and richard

dragontales, Nov 30, 3:15am
why'd you say that !

richard198, Nov 30, 3:17am
Because what they were suggesting was a dangerous piss take and then you seemed to take them seriously!

dragontales, Nov 30, 3:30am
i was unsure of why someone would say that! yes you're right, def wouldnt go out there and start putting crap all over my brakes though

Causes for Screeching Brakes (Assuming all disc brakes, no drums)

Pads low/worn
Rotors worn (lip on edges)
Anti squeak shims shagged/missing (not all cars have)
Seized slide/s
Stone/object caught in them
If all the components are ok, remove the pads, chamfer the two edges (inside and outside) - can do this with a file/sanding block/grinder if your skilled enough. Apply grease or copperkote (I prefer grease as Copperkote tends to dry out and squeak again) and lube the contact partsof the backing of the pad (Not the lining) where they sit in the caliper. If using grease, make sure its a high temp grease and make sure you get none in the linings at all.
Spray some CRC Anti Squeak or other similar product onto the back of the pads (not the lining side).

The way your question is phrased and how you responded to frankly stupid replies strongly suggests insufficient mechanical knowledge to be playing with something as vital as the brakes.
On that basis although richard and I made sensible comments I really feel best it goes to a mechanic.

Learn something new every day

what the one reply, re turn the stereo up !, there was an icon with that lol i was hardly serious with that one, and yip you are right i dont have sufficient mechanical knowledge hence the question and i wont be playing with them, never said i would, just wanted to know if it was common in some or something else

richard198, Nov 30, 5:48am
The reason copper grease is recommended is because it is a high temperature grease.

unbeatabull, Nov 30, 6:34am
Yeah I realise that, but I find Copperkote or the bronze type stuff generally dries out, I find the black stuff (Can't think of its name, but its High Pressure/High Temp Stuff, basically the same you use in CV Joints), we just have it in our grease gun so can't say I know the brandname

richard198, Nov 30, 6:42am
Molybdenum!

unbeatabull, Nov 30, 6:44am
Yup thats the type I mean! Pretty sure the brand is Variplex too, but I'd say any Moly based Grease will be fine.

kazbanz, Nov 30, 9:11am
YOU have wrong end of stick. The silly comments I refer to are from people who frankly should know a lot better.Ie OIl the pads.Your response showed your lack of knowledge.
Everyone is a bit touchy about something. For me its cracking silly jokes (the other posters) To someone who may very well go out and do what they suggested.
Probably over reacting but with safety stuff-Mehh I jst don't joke about it is all

dragontales, Apr 19, 10:49pm
ah ok sorry, and fair enough
