no it ain't, it's depth of knowledge unlike some cowboys that keep changing their jobs every 5mins

mykyva, Nov 29, 8:28am
you're right there mate, but I did advise the customer if it happens again, she'd have to take it to the sparkys

mykyva, Nov 29, 8:36am
to be fair, it is his 1st day.maybe a bit of nervousness set in etc.he did a couple of ball joints, WOFs, services, scans etc.I can see he is a very hardworking guy, doesn't mind making the boss a coffee & not afraid to pick up the broom for a sweep, everyones allowed to screw up every now & then I suppose, it just so happens to be the 1st day on the job!

trogedon, Nov 29, 8:58am
I knew a guy who was a really good mechanic??

crzyhrse, Nov 29, 9:37am
You don't gain depth of knowledge by stagnating sheltered in one spot for years and years on end.

icemans1, Nov 29, 11:33am
ok, so tell me how long it would take to become a specialist in fords for example. if working as a ford mechanic for 10 years you would be able to pin point a problem quicker than someone that has only been one for 2 years. working in a place for years instead of drifting from job to job also shows dedication and reliability. you know the old saying - jack of all trades and a master of none.

Respectivley in post #1 only stop lights is stated.
In post#20 stop lights AND Hi stop light are stated.
well one can assump! that it is circa 1990.
And one could assump! that there would be a bulb failure lamp wired in to the system.
I.E. 8 recent years would inherrently lead one down a diferrent assump! path
To what 8 years30 years ago would.

Actually guys thinking about it. let he who have committed no sin cast the first stone.--Or in other words havent we all made stupid screw ups from time to time!
Im happy to put my hand up and admit to making the odd dumb mistake.

pollymay, Nov 29, 4:21pm
Took me a couple hours to fix my one. Had one of those failure boxes that doubled as a distributor for the signal. Can't remember if it also was acting as a relay but I remember going back to basics and rewiring the car to not have that piece of crap, it's been fine ever since and blows fuses rather than expensive electronic boxes if it shorts out.

pup2, Nov 29, 6:21pm
The great wee check relay eh pollymay, they can be a right pain. Just another thing to go wrong. Now days some cars use can bus for park and brake.

trogedon, Nov 29, 6:30pm
Plenty of work places have a very wide range of work - a rural garage for example. In such a place a worker may get a wider range than moving around.

strobo, Nov 29, 6:31pm
Is he Indian or South African ! & why are you dissing 'your" employee on a social net work site! there may have been method in his madness but bringing that miniscalthing up in herereflects badly on youin my opinion.

oakie, Nov 29, 6:35pm
you have 90 days to trial this dope!

strobo, Nov 29, 6:51pm
(sp) miniscule

mykyva, Nov 29, 8:26pm
wtf does it matter what ethnicity he is! Are you a racist!.& by the way, I'm not dissing anyone, it's not like I've posted his name up, no-one knows who I'm talking about.believe it or not there are a lot of mechanics and diy guys who can relate to this thread, even though it is miniscal

That's where I currently work. We get cars, utes, trucks, buses, chainsaws, mowers, ride ons, motor bikes, quads, tyres, diggers, tractors, bob cats, bulldozers, engineering and welding.everything really. Awesome place to work with outstanding variety. BUT, because we have so much work on, we don't do electronic diagnostic work, which is unfortunate. I did manage to repair SRS lights on two Ford Mondeos and an Escort, but only because I recognised the fault codes and knew where to look.

strobo, Nov 30, 1:14am
But believe it ,some know who you are!

gilco2, Nov 30, 1:34am
Thats like the place I worked at for 33 years until made redundant as mechanical repairs no longer core business

crzyhrse, Nov 30, 2:08am
Not unless it's written into the employment contract which was agreed to before commencement of employment.

strobo, Nov 30, 2:25am
I understand that vehicle Inspection & mechanical repairs are individual employment placements so the guy should be on double pay;) so sweeping the floor & making the boss morning teacome with seperate job placements too . of course as crazy horse suggested"the binding contract" !It's his business i guess lol (slavery) exploitation maybe !

crzyhrse, Nov 30, 2:33am
Which is just a saying, not a fact. The biggest idiots I've ever had to deal with are those who've only ever had a couple of jobs - I'm working with one at the moment that has only ever worked in one place for 15 years. If you were to believe the saying you'd think they'd be a master of their trade, but experience has proven that an idiot is an idiot regardless.

strobo, Nov 30, 2:50am
One i know who spent 30 years same place & i reckoned he is institutionalized (big word i know) check spelling please,He is now immune to actually doing any sort of work but yet on the pay roll ,, non productive really ,Sort of being like as a "boss" who gets in the way, who needs them anyway ! I dont as i work for my own business, but what im saying istradestoday peopleare expected to do everything & when they don't they get jumped on.I knowall sorts who either run/own operate an automotive repair businees that have no aptitude for the trade except get in the way & muck it up for themselves.but to defame your own staff inthe trademe message board beggars belief.just not a cool thing to do!

lookoutas, Nov 30, 6:21am
You chuck crap at me kaz, and then you come up with this:-)
Fuses are there to stop bulbs from blowing. That's way I wooda checked the fuse first, with 3 lights out.
But - I concede.
I would check a bulb if it was easier to get at/find than the right fuse.

Usually for old fulla's like me, it's hard to inspect or even see bloody fuses, let alone decipher the Jap lingo.

ralphdog1, Nov 30, 6:35am
So because one clown you work with has been there a long time does that mean everyone with long term stable employment history is an idiot in your mind!

icemans1, Dec 1, 6:25am
lol, it seems that way
