On my 308 v8 red engine on the block its got stamped REDLINE ENG AAD and has no engine numbers on the block is the a way of finding out what year it is and any thing about it!

u can tell ruffle by what gearbox fits it

u will have to work out if the bell houseing is chev or trimatis if it's chev it a later model motor whats it in if i may ask

the year & a clock will be stamped on the front of the block right above the timing cover.
It will show 2 numbers which represents the day of the month, a letter represents the month & the last number represents the year. The clock represents the time the block was cast. Example: 23F8 = 23 June 1968 or 1978 or 1988. The clock is pretty self explanatory.

I have 4 D 4 then 8 on the clock.

4 April 1974.The engine # should normally have the prefix HZ or HT for the SLR. Im assuming its a 74 like the motor!HT is the prefix for the models that had L34 type heads. Does the engine look any different from a normal 308! To have actual words stamped on the ID pad is unusual unless the block is a special casting or been modified etc

The engine has L34 heads and it has id pads on both sides of the engine with the same redline eng aad on both sides! i dont know if its any different to other 308s
