Unusual.the cat icon normally indicates a slipping fanbelt.

I know they put a cat in the middle of the exhaust for emissions. but having one sitting there - I can't see how it will help

Maybe a blocked cat. Exahust problem. Easily fixed by giving me ownership of the vehicle in question

On a side note (bit of an icky note) An old mate of mine started up his heavily modded Mk3 Zepher v8 1 frosty morning . to hear a hell of series of banging coming from the engine bay.
His cat had gone to sleep on the front part of the v8 overnight & didn't wake up in time to get out. Munted the cat (of course) shattered the thin stainless fan blades & punched a few holes in the radiator along with a few fan blade parts embedded in various places including the award winning art work painted bonnet
