looking at buying a commodore SS for the misses it has the GEN 3 motor in it, just wondering when was the last year Holden fixed the problem with piston slap when they went from the Holden to Chevy engine. I know the VT-VX,s had this problem .
Also any other problems we should look at with the VY series.

The Gen III was always a Chev engine, the old Holden V8 stopped with the series 1 VT

Would say most have been repaired under warranty by now,I know the LS1 engine was renowned for this problem, perhaps the LS2 was better! Some 2005 VZ's still suffered from it so guess it's a bit of a lottery!

Other VY problems.Stereos stop working (display reads eRR) and requires major surgery to rectify it.Fuel guages are often just there for decoration.Seats fall apart,as do door panels.Fuel flap levers are very fragile, the wire often pulls away from the plastic lever.Nothing major, just annoying little things mostly.

why not just get an SV6 instead!
