putting the head today .just tryed totorque the rockers down started at 10 ft/lbs and when to 15 ft/lbs and started to brack and stretch bolts .have used 186 rods will i have to use the 173 rods!

You check that you are using the torque wrench correct, because even if you come up against a problem like the push rods being to long,, you still should not break a bolt,, I think you will have to use the 173 rods

position lifter on back of cam lobe - snug rockerbolt down with a socket while watching to see if there is any downwardmovement at all on that valve. If there is ----- there is your answer

re the stretching or breaking bolts .something sure doesnt sound right. You ARE using ft/lbs arnt you! Not N/m by accident! All the longer 186 pushrods would do in that case would be to push a valve down a bit so that is not the problem with the bolts stripping/breaking.
