Wanting opinions on a Mitsuibishi Pajero 4x4!

keirae, Feb 5, 7:33pm
Been offered one from a family member, it's a 1997 petrol. What are they like! I have only ever driven an older model so not sure what they are like. Are the quite thirsty generally! Any info/opinions greatly appreciated :)

Don't or do and then sell it

Are you saying to stay away from them! Or go for it and sell it if it doesn't work out!

Plus points:

-Big/solid, plenty of room inside them if its a 5 door
-4x4 system is amongst the best available
-reasonably cheap to buy compared to some competitors which are
grossly overpriced
-overall reliability/parts costs not bad
-Good for towing boats etc and offroad trekking if thats your thing

Minus points

-Big/solid!(moving all that weight around costs, harder to park than cars, they're not really suitable if you're an urbanite)
-All engines thirsty, if its a 3.5 GDI these are more economical than the other V6's but you lose big time if there are fuel system problems which will happen eventually, they're simply not made for NZ fuel. The 3.5 engine has also been known to break crankshafts (baaad news!, new engine needed basically). The 3.0 is a safer bet overall.
-Safety comfort and stability simply isn't as good as most cars for obvious reasons
-General running costs, tyre replacements etc cost more than a car.

^^ +1. good info. 1999 onwards Pajero is safer than the old ladder frame models, 2006 onwards shape is better still.
