Something with atleast 4 gears, but 5 would be best. A working reverse is always a plus.

Something low mileage as high mileage often means wear and $$$ in repairs. Try to avoid the CVT auto's as they suffer failure at lower kms especially if thrashed or poorly maintained. Honda autos are fine if properly maintained, if not they die quickly. The main thing to do is change the transmission fluid regularly (every 40,000kms).

Mileage is not everything. I've seen cars done 40000km that are absolutly poked and driven another for 10000km with 450000 on the clock without any issue at all.
