I drove from Franz Josef to Wanaka to Ch Ch in the dead of night on a space saver.didn't like it but it was midnight+ so just soldiered on

I agree space savers should be banned.
And a spare tyre should be up to the same WOF standard as the tyres already on your vehicle.

my car has factory staggered fitment.225 17's front, 245 17's rear

could i put a 225 17 on the rear to just get me home! got to be better than a space saver!

is it AWD! it should be find so long as the wheel offsets aren't specific to the front or rear - ie the front rims clear the suspension/brakes in the rear

its not awd. mines a 330 bmw, the motorsport one

oh.I think the offsets ARE different front/rear

Pretty sure in your case the staggered wheels were an option - the fronts should fit on the back okay. Obviously best to check for yourself though.
