Any known(major) issues with these motorsare they basically an Izuzu
engine

mugenb20b, Jan 11, 7:38am
Yep, Isuzu 100%, fantastic motors, or should I say, fantastic utes. No issues, just keep up the oil and filter changes. If there is an "issue", it's the noise of the engine, although, I like the sound of it.

Might pay to check the gearbox oil filler plug. Animals usually overtighten them and strip the threads.

Like any thing that the dog and lemon guide says "avoid like the plague",why don't some one just bring out a description of the dog and lemon guide and say "avoid this dog and lemon guide like the plague" cause its a load of cramp!.

next-to-normal, Jan 11, 8:42am
the earlier one better 2.8 a very good motor.no no to the 3 litre, 3.1 good

taipan4, Jan 11, 8:47am
ok whats the problem or issue with 3 liter

mugenb20b, Jan 11, 8:51am
The 3.0 litre Rodeo motor is totally different to the Wizard's 3.0 litre 4JX1 motor.

mugenb20b, Jan 11, 8:52am
Rodeo's motor, nothing. Wizard and Bighorn, everything.

bubbles244, Jan 11, 9:03am
yep, the rodeodidn't get the 3.1 that made the bighorn and wizard suffer.

IT was the 4JB1 then the newly designed 3.0 when the rodeo had a major facelift.

next-to-normal, Jan 11, 9:05am
ah sorry about that ,so its a 4jj1 motor, i got a 4jb1, it did me well and still got it,best motor i think ive ever had.but thats me,parked up now with dodgy battery leads

scousemouse, Jan 11, 11:11pm
just clocked up 320,000km on a 2005 3litre.only problem to date is catylitic converter collapsed, and throttle position sensor fail about a year ago.

mram, Jan 12, 1:50am
2005 still might be the 4jh1tc engine-non common rail! the 4jj1 is common rail one. 4jh1 is a great motor, just down a fair bit on power to the common rail

phillip.weston, Jan 12, 2:13am
yeah 2005 is the older non-common rail 90-odd kW engine. I can't even recall if it's OHC or not, it looks like it's OHV almost.

mugenb20b, Jan 12, 2:20am
Yep, OHV motor.

Last week brothers Tranmission (auto) died on him, looking up to $5k to repair, dont buy auto 190,000ks on clock, motor all good no good with a stuffed transmission lol, 2005 Rodeo.

mugenb20b, Jan 12, 5:37am
Of course it did. Has the transmission been serviced regularly! Has your brother or someone else done lots of towing with it! If so, was there an auxilliary transmission oil cooler fitted! The list can go on.

jandah, Jan 12, 6:04am
After buying it he found out it had a very hard towing life, was towing from Takapuna to Glenbrooke 5-6 days a week with 5 men and a tandem trailer full of rgging gear from new till he brought it in 2008. Of course the dealer didnt mention it (customfleet). He done full flush an servicing but the damage was already done, as it was a non service lease! and it gets worse, later he found a switch that turns the odo off,.So currently reads 190k but who knows!.

mugenb20b, Jan 12, 6:14am
Bugger!

bashfulbro, Jan 12, 7:20am
I recently sold two of them with that same engine, one (2006) has 650,000 kms on clock, the other (2007) 560,000 kms, one of them, the 2006 had catalytic converter replaced ( partially underwarranty, i paid labour,Holden paid parts ) at 105,000kms, never touched since. They are still up and down the country on daily basis. They are both manuals, both have had same drivers from new.The key is, regular servicing, clean oil & filters.Fantastic engine.
