I've got a car licence. thinking of buying a motorbike. what cc rating can I go up to when buying!. and any recommendations on a particular brand to buy!.cheers.

You can't ride a motorcycle on a Class 1 driver's licence. Only a moped.

Once you get a learners motorcycle licence you can presently ride any bike up to 250cc.
After 1st of October this changes, CERTAIN bikes over 250cc will be allowed, and a couple under 250cc won't be.
To get a learners motorcycle licence (6L), you will need to. 1. learn to ride (off the road) sufficiently that you would be safe to ride on the road 2. take the Basic Handling Skills test, where you ride a motorcycle (generally provided) around some cones, show that you won't fall off, can stop adequately etc 3. take the scratchie and oral test to be issued a licence.

As for brand, well that's less important than type, and that depends on the type of riding you want to do, what your physical dimensions are, and your personal preference.

Ahem, scratchie tests went out with the ark. And there is no oral test. The practice tests are done online now, and are exact replicas of the actual theory tests done at your testing agent.
