Commodore Ecotech V later Alloytech engines?

Any holden mechanics out there! Are the Alloytech motors any good! Are we going to see them doing 500,00km's plus with just the few usual relatively minor faults developing (if well maintained) as we do with the old-school ecotech engine! or is the Alloytech simply more complex with far more to go wrong/wear out in s shorter time! Can the home mechanic easily maintain/service the alloytech engine as you can the ecotech! After owing a few vp-vr-vt-vx-vy models and getting good runs from all - resisting jumping into the unknown of the VZ's - In summary, stick with low k's old school while they're about - or take a leap! A mechanics opinion appreciated. Ta!

Have a drive in an LS powered car before you consider anything with a Alloytech.
There are a number of changes between the VZ V6 and the VE V6.
Have a read of the various Holden and LS forums.

apparently the 3.6 runs at a very similar fuel useage as the cast iron 3.8

best on a 3.8 11LPH on a trip down welling and back 3.6 was 9.5lph

And if driven carefully the LS1 can manage figures not far off the V6s,

The new Cruze Series 2 has a 1.8 'ecotec' among the engine options.
