Toyota In-Car TV Multi-DVD Navi-system

I've recently imported a jzx110 Toyota Mark II with a full DVD system (arriving next week). Looking at the past threads on TM, it seems that noone has managed to get the TV working as well as the DVD player coz Jap-systems use NTSC. To hell with the Navi system, we all know this wont work in NZ.

I was thinking, If the Unit has a DVD option, it MUST have a 'video in' plug or something similar. I was thinking of butchering it and maybe connecting a NZ TV tuner/receiver and a DVD player to the car, and using a power inverter to make those units to work in the car, do you think this will work!

Another idea I have is to open up the system and somehow integrate the TV Receiver (PAL Europe/BG) to the unit by removing the old receiver/tuner (NTSC or PAL-I) and installing it. The only problem with this is I dont know if it will be able to pick up the audio signal. Gah!

any ideas! tips! recommendations!

haha yeah. sleep. what sleep!

definitely! as an engineer, I'm bound do some research and make something work. Though electronics isnt really my area of expertise, I'll keep you guys posted on the progress whether it'll be next week, next month or next year haha.

thinking of working on something cheap for now, cheap dvd player, cheap tuner. if that works, heck, i can make anything work.

right now,it's definitely 100% feasible. It's just a question of how much I'm willing to spend.

please state what type of stereo it is and the model number.i have fitted a 320 gig western digital media player to our toyota system and feed it into the "aux video" input (you push the Tv button twice to get to the video input)
i have around 100 gigs of mp3 music and a few movies and music videos on it. and yes the video input is ntsc

heres a few pics.
i put the WD media player and drive into the stripped out nav box, i hacked the firmware to customise the graphics and match the toyota dash colours.

I use my japanese DVD video unit regularly, You just need to buy Region 2 or Region free DVD's to go into the unit and presto it works and keeps the kiddies happy on long trips.

Another option is you could rip (software) your dvd's and burn them as region free.

Or ask computing.

if its a 2003 JDM then it will have a aux video in.you may just have to find a plug for the back of your stereo. most of the toyotas have a small loom that plugs in to the H/U and goes down to the kick panel or glove box where it has standard RCA plugs. also most of the factory toyota stuff uses a system called "AVC LAN" for the stereo communication.if you do a bit of googling you'll find avc lan adaptors for ipods etc (but these don't display video they're just a aux in thing)

I recall some time ago googling this subject that there were units the converted NTSC to PAL and also units that did the reverse. Not sure if they are available still or not! Must google the subject again & see.
I think they were units made in the UK.

check this link outhttp://www.threedoubleyou.com/converters.htm
You'll find converters here, also there are heaps of other sites .Google NTSC/PAL Converters and pick & chose from what comes up.
The above link is the one I checked out some time ago mentioned in previous posts!
