Rear oil seal V6 commie, how do I replace this?

Now that I have got my series one commie engine up and running, it now dripsalot of oil out the rear of the motor. Can the rear main seal be done by just removing the manual box and clutch etc and slide the seal onto the crank or does the crankshaft need to be loosened! TIA

Sorry to say its a full engine out & sump off & crank out job. Series 1 engines use the old rope type rear main seal (same type/seal as 6cyl Holden engines). You need to take crank out fully as the 'rope' seal needs to be pushed into the groove in both crank journal cap & engine block groove. Series 2 onwards were full circle type rear main seals & simple gearbox out, flywheel off job.

Now thats a bummer, thanks for that, I guess I have a big weekend job ahead of me then.

My 1995 VR V6 had the rear main seal replaced twice in its first 3 years of life under warranty. A common fault.
