and if you blow your diff what about a jag one

If you get the right manifold, from memory the intake ports have a small groove for the injectors that will need to be taken care of.
Just a Rover 3.5 will do, cheap and easy.
You should already have a borg warner 35 in there, so V8 + bell housing and you're away.
If you want to be silly the LT77 box of ZF4HP22 (Is that correct! It's too late.) behind a 4.9, roller rockers, cam and port job with megasquirt ECU.

the twitch is caused by the splines binding under load, no fancy grease will fix it! the more power the worse it gets!. i have a TR, converted it to run cvs with HD rear hubs, sweet !

Why not rebuild it & modify there is heaps can be done to wake them up ,overbore , hi comp pistonsbetter cam, portthe head , fit headers , 45 dcoe webersget auto shift kitted . No certs needed , cost a bit more than your budget . Buying any used engine ispig in a pokecould be a clapped out dunga . Cost of converting to any other engine will be way outside that budget by the time pay for certifyiung /compliancing .

just recon the old moter and save urself heaps of greif and money.standard it will be worth a lot more and you will also look cool in an oldie but goodie.cheers dennis

this guy has the right idea.spec it up to 2.5 and the other mods hes suggested, try get a overdrive box while ur at it and u got one cool rider dude.

Of the ppl suggesting hotting up the original motor, do any of you realize how weak the crank bearing setups are in these motors!

mrfxit, May 1, 9:42pm
Will probably still need certing because of the amount of HP gained over original.

pfemstn, May 2, 12:35am
the origonal engines are very strong, however a recon and a few mods will prove very expensive, parts, are expensive, plus lots of maching to do! .will need in excess of $3000, for any sort of result! been there done that! as for mrfxit what a lot of crap!

mrfxit, May 2, 12:53am
LOL,
Long throw 4 bearing crank 6 cyl
Narrow bearing shells
Cast iron valve seats
OHV . not OHC

& much more.

Any increase of HP over 20% of ORIGINAL fitted & spec'dengine must be certed

Holden straight 6's arn't an easy fit, neither are most other brand straight 6's.
The triumph is a pretty short block hence why alloy v8'sare a common fit but are getting either rare for the older engine or expensive for the newer engines.
A modern v6 would be far smoother/easier to fit in that engine bay /lighter & more economical then most other 6 or v8 engines & provide ample torque to haul that heavy old body around.
Would also probably need less suspension mods to cope with the weight & performance issues.

If it's all sorted properly from the start, then certifying would be pretty basic & fairly cheap

Nah, its easy. Edelbrock manifold bolts straight on, electronic dizzy drops straight in and youre away. Put one in a 79 rangie a few months ago, damn thing is scary fast, will light up all four tyres from a standing start if youre brutal on it
