I wouldn't have said the engines are that good either TBH.They are reliable enough but many repairs are a pig to do on them.If a head gasket goes its a motor out job to replace them due to daft design and installation work on Isuzu's part. When it comes to timing belts there are four different types of belts/proceduresthat vary in price quite a bit, and its hard to tell what one its got until its all apart. While I'm not a fan of the 3.1 Diesels either on balance they are probably the better option.

We owned a really tidy one with low k's but soon became apparant it was a piece of crap. Engine surged something terrible and we only got about 400-450ks per 70 litre tank. Traded it in 12mths later and lost 15 grand. Possibly just a lemon, who knows.
