VL commodore engine & gearbox removal

I have one of these that need a motor & gearbox (it's a auto). All I have is my chain hoist hanging in the garage. I was wondering if the motor & gearbox can be lifted out together from the above the car! As opposed to lifting just the motor out through the top & dropping the gearbox underneath

yes it can, but you have to remove all the gearbox mounts etc first. best to put the box on a small trolley jack so it doesnt scrape against teh ground as iits being slid out

Probably not if the chain block isn't on a rail.

its easy just get 2 people cause eu would have to rock it and manuver it around

it depends on how high ya garage beam is,once the lifting block and chains hang down you may be very tight on space, and may not get enough angle to pull them out in one peice, remember also once the engine weight is lifted off the mounts the front of the car will lift aswell decrease the room you have to work with.if connected to a high beam with plenty of clerance it should be do able.
