Seems high! Is the $250 extra cost specifically for the overheating checks! Ask for a breakdown of the bill - all labour, use of pressure test equipment, diagnostic gear, distance of road test, any parts or antifreeze used etc.

Does this firm's last name start with a P (boys name) or do you have a Ford! As rgflav says A radiator shop would have done a test free,A & Lowe .

i think you want to change your thermostat. the service garage should have told you what i just did as it is common sense when you say it overheated once and not again means the thermostat was hanging shut.

Most radiator shops will do it for free, my old work use to as a image thing.

Last time I needed it my regular (at the time) mechanic did it for nothing. Only takes the better part of 5 minutes.
