1993 Camry V6 missing continuously

hotlegend, Apr 12, 3:06am
Just happened while driving and now have just replaced all 6 plugs with new Platinum ones, but still no change. Should I be checking the leads now then distributor!

And also for a blown head gasket.

pollymay, Apr 12, 3:23am
Dizzy and leads. Mind just did this, fixed it straight away and hasn't skipped a beat since.

hotlegend, Apr 12, 3:38am
Ok just any chance you can remember how much this cost to get dizzy and leads!and any way of testing before buying

franc123, Apr 12, 3:38am
Don't panic, it probably won't be a HG, sadly that model IS prone to block corrosion and blown gaskets.More than likely it will be a lead open circuited, or shorting to the head.If the plugs you pulled out were very worn the leads and cap/rotor will have been under a fair bit of stress.

ok thanks will try to borrow friends multimeter tester and see what happens

toxicgreen., Apr 12, 4:07am
OP may not know how to OHMs test, contact multimetre lead at each end of a lead and see reading, carbon on a lead plug can be hard to see for people not into cars , so if a lead plug has tiny fracture where spark escapes a cheap way to prove it is wrap plastic lead plug with 3-4 layers of insulation tape, if misses go away great,, then within a wk go buy a set of leads.

To find out if head gaskit is blown look under oil filler cap for white creamy stuff(Bad news if you find some) Also wen cold look in radiator filler cap for oily residue,(bad news)check dipstick if creamy bad news.

awesome thanks guys for all the great and hopefully successful advice. Will try all the above after work hours tomorrow.

why dose everyone think a blown head gasket means oil in the water. I Havent seen a blown head gasket with oil in the water for years.

franc123, Apr 12, 4:26am
Its unlikely but possible, usually not the first symptom of one,Thats more more likely if the head cracks for example through the cam tunnel and oil is forced into the coolant under pressure. These days mostly its coolant loss/excess pressure in the system that gives it away. It's possible even for HG's to blow without affecting the cooling or oil systems at all, and leak compression/burnt gas only out the side of the head, making a nice chuffing sound!

dent, Apr 12, 4:32am
yeah i normally find the first sines are missing in the mornings and overheating due to water loss.

franc123, Apr 12, 4:39am
Yes for sure, especially the middle two cylinders, its a trap for young players that one.A compression or cylinder leak test finds that pretty quickly.

phillip.weston, Apr 12, 4:48am
does it go through coolant! is the radiator overly pressurised!

hotlegend, Apr 12, 1:20pm
no doesnt get hot or lose coolant

hotlegend, Apr 13, 2:08am

And if any1 else has same problem just buy the plugs and leads and do yaself. We did and only took 20mins to fit plugs and 20mins to fit leads. Dont pay any garage to do it. And didnt have to take heaps of parts off to do it just needed wifes small hands and all is well. Thanks so much for everyones help
