Hiya, I've heard that it is cheaper to register a car that is over 30 years old, initially I thought it was 40 years, any classic enthusiasts out there know the answer for me!

it was roughly $432 to put my escort on the rd under normal charges, if i waited 6 month it was going to be $119 according to the LTSA over the phone

I wish it was 30 years! There are some 1980-1981 cars which are still perfectly usable for comfortable and reliable daily runners - 1971 cars not so much.

And they do not need to be licensed continously.

Yes I'm sure there are cars 1971 or earlier which could well be comfortable and reliable enough to be a daily driver, but that number of vehicles is alot less than the ones from 1981 for instance. Things like power steering, disc brakes, fuel injection, 5 speed gearbox, even safety equipment began to come commonplace features in those 10 years.

thanks guys, yes I thought it was 40 years when I first registered my 77, looking at a 78 now and the owner is claiming it's cheaper by half to register - I had my doubts!Cheers
