You need to be more specific. What kind of car, year, gearbox, etc. And what are you swapping it out for! The exact same gearbox, or a SRT10 viper gearbox! You need to let us know the variables!

ok 1999 Audi quattro 4 wheeldrive 2.8 v6 , took my partner about 8 hours from start to finish he had 1 helper but hes also a competent mechanic,so that was gearbox out, reconditioned unit replaced and all fluids replaced. at home in our garage with no hoist and at the end he said and i quote,"sheesh thats was a bloody mission"

In a home garage allow at least one day out one day in, maybe another half to finish the bits and pieces.
The second time you do it will be a lot quicker.;-)

But the interesting part is that Audi make a big song and dance about how good their mechanics are and how quickly they managed that job. I reckon there was about 90 man minutes in the job. So next time I rock up to the main dealer with my own for a gearbox change, I'd expect them to charge for no more than 90 mins of labour.!

yo better stripp it all clean then like that race audi was gear linkage all exposed no plastic cover crap and loads of other mods . The rally version is made for easy acess and is not plastered over with clips and covers.
