13x7 minilight slightly lowered. What would be a good sized tire for this. Dont want stretched or balloon look just a nice fitting lowish profile. 195 60 13 look ok!

jason18, Mar 27, 3:31am
195 50 13 would that also be an option or is the sidewall getting to low and would look funny! Hard to picture/buy without being on car.

I've seen 195 60 13 on an 808 and it looked good imo; made me wish I hadn't gone 205 60. I see Beaver is recommending quite small tyres.

Just an opinion, and I am old, but I think these older cars (say pre-1995)with large diameter rims and tyres sections around 40 look ridiculous. Stay with the 13's and 185/70 or 195/60 and keep that classic rally car look.

fordcrzy, Mar 27, 3:59am
i tried 185/70 on my mk 1 and they rubbed something shocking.
youd better go LOW profile

You will probably have to roll the guards regardless. I did on my mk2 and it only had 13x6's

bellky, Mar 27, 4:03am
That was most likely due to the offset of your wheels though! You can get 215s on the back of escort easy, I used to have 235s with flared guards. (edit: I had 1600 Sport)

jason18, Mar 27, 4:04am
Yeah 195 60 sound like they could be the go I not a fan of 70s profiles

fordcrzy, Mar 27, 4:06am
the exact same wheels/tyres fitted no probem on the Mk2 sport i had. Just a heads up.

jason18, Mar 27, 4:07am
Oh mint cheers man Will tell my brother.

You also need to watch the front/lower edge of the front wheel arches with lock applied. I've just done one for a young fulla, and had to cut it forward at least 15mm. As well as roll the edges.

twink19, Mar 27, 4:51am
I have always run 205 x 60 x 13 on my 7inch rims, but car has flared arches other wise 185 x 60 x 13 on 6 inch rims

Very subjective. To me that says : "18 year old got hold of escort and had discount voucher at Mag & Turbo" \

Go the 13 minilite or derivative.

I'm a traditionalist and I actually quite like it with those wheels (pity about all the 'rota' stuff on that car though.)

What I don't really rate is when you see these cars on 13" mags with stretched and/or very low profile tyres that are much thinner than anything that was ever used on those cars when they (and their 13" wheels) were new. cars end up looking like a roller skate, with wheels & tyres that are just too small and don't fill up the wheel arches like they are supposed to.

Going low profile you need to upsize the wheels to keep the rolling radius the same. On older cars that should be done using either steel wheels, or else bigger period mags.

I have spoken!

Going low profile youpreserve the 'right' look of the car better by upsizing the wheels to keep the rolling radius the same. On older cars that should be done using either steel wheels, or else bigger period mags.
