I have a nissan cefiro 2.5l v6 1998 and firstly it started making a clicking typenoise and now it is making a whining noise. Any ideas! It has done 255k Ta

It might pay to mention when it whines, specifically, and under what conditions, if any, the whine changes, if it does at all.
Such as "it gets worse when I have the headlights on" or "it goes away when engine speed is higher than idle" or "it gets really loud when I turn the steering wheel in the driveway" or "it gets higher pitch when the engine speed increases".

Have you tried opening the bonnet and looking for things that look out of place! Are all the fluid levels OK! The belts intact! Is the noise coming from the engine bay or from the wheels! Is the noise present when driving or when stationary! Maybe post a you tube video link!

Yeah it will start with making a rattle/clicking sort of noise and get progressively worse.
Does the car have enough of the right grade oil in it! Are the drive belts tight (power steer belt,ac belt, alternator belt)! Does everything seem ok in the engine bay! If yes to all that then yeah i would be looking at timing chain problems.
