94 Mazda 626 2.5 V6 - likely tappet noise

With high mileage examples is there much you can do to either a) reduce the noise, and b) prolong the life of the engine when it has reached this stage! This aside, the car is otherwise in very good shape mechanically. Cambelt and waterpump recently done also, which is a bonus.

ProMa MBL8 is good shit for reducing lifter noise, but pays to do an engine flush first, and use low viscosity oil. Early V6 Mazdas have had problems with noisy cam gears. Automatic transmissions are their biggest downfalls.

Cheers for that. Would Castrol Magnatec 10w-40 be a safe option! Or a different grade!
