Mazda Famillia SP20 1999 fuel consumption

i have just recently purchased a 1999 mazda famillia sport model 2 litre and am wondering if all you other owners of this car get only 400km to a tank of petrol like mine does. it does 400kms on the highway with minimal stopping. has done 90,000kms and read about these specific cars having a good fuel economy rating, just wanting to know if this is expected with these cars or is something wrong with the vehicle for it to be doing such low kms!

Have the spark plugs been replaced recently, airfilter, tyre pressures. What fuel are you running, you may find it more economical on 95 octane and of course driving style has a lot to do with how economical a car is.

should be getting atleast 500 on the open road.

Yea yo u should get 500+ on the open highway with constant driving at 100km, driving nicely, Round town stop start you won't get any more, and alot of the economy is how you drive it, ie taking off fast etc. Its probably $90.00 to fill. Unless you get a tiny car /light pump tyres up etc you can't getmuch better. Remember its 12 years old technology.

Just because a car is old, does not mean it will be poor on fuel use. My 80's work car uses less gas than the rest of the fleet, but then again its simple with no airbags, power steering, aircon to weigh it down. It will do 30km return trips Monday to Friday to work on 60 bucks a fortnight. Plus erins

Yes john we know that.
