That raises a good point, those MX5's don't react at all well to different weight wheels. The suspension seems to be highly tuned for that specific amount of unsprung weight.
Many have changed to fancy wheels only to make the handling worse not better.

lol I guess most other people who drive not-so-common cars do the same, but it in MGBs, minis, mustangs etc
Of course bikers always do it, unless you ride a harley, cause those guys are clearly too manly to wave back lol
