Ticketed for 106 whilst passing a truck

That's rather simplistic & unrealistic . We will always have varying speeds on the road due to varying vehicle types & driver ability .
Trucks will generally be at 90+ on nice flat straight roads but chuck in a few windy or hilly bits & they soon have a queue behind them . That queue will invariably contain a few muppets who have no idea on how / where to safely overtake long vehicles . Me I prefer to think ahead & knowing theres a lengthy period with no passing opportunities ahead pass trucks safely well before , this manoeureve should be completed with Minimal time on wrong side of road so if that requires 100-110 then so be it . It sure as hell is not impacting road safety in an way . However the clowns who dawdle in passing lanes & then run out of lane when half way alongside a lengthy truck & end up in opposing traffic are a major hazard . Theyre probably the Same muppets that bleat on here that I'm a criminal for doing 106 when passing .lol

OK, I believe in speed limits and enforcement, but man thats just a bit OTT, there should be an allowance for overtaking.

Watch out nyla5 . The cardigan wearers who read this thread will be tutt tutting at you as they dawdle along in there own dreamland .

At the end of the day, the police have a job to do just like most of us hard working types. If you feel you have been unfairly delt with, take it to court and see what the JPs say. I have taken it that far twice, one we lost, one we won. JPs don't always take the police side and often look at things from a pragmatic side as well as a legal standpoint

lpggas, Jun 4, 6:58am
Not a realistic option for a $ 30 ticket .

berg, Jun 4, 7:02am
Last one was for an $80 ticket, and we lost. Win some, lose some. First port of call is always writing to the Police Infringement Bereau and stating your case. Often things get pulled at that point

These selfrightous drivers that hold up traffic ,drive on the centerline{what is it about that centerline}!speed up on passing lanes ,are the most dangerous drivers on the road,CRV,and late model RAVs are some of the worst!

ninja_man, Jun 4, 7:11am
they need to focus more on drink driving than speeding. i mean most crashes are because of alcohol. stupid revenue gathering

berg, Jun 4, 7:21am
Often the two go hand in hand. Drinking and inappropriate speed.
As for revenue collecting, how many here remember the bad old days where we killed over 700 a year on the roads. How many worked as firemen, ambos, tow operators, cops at that time. I did and I remember the carnage well. If it takes revinue collecting (even though that's BS and more a self inflicted tax) I'm OK with it.

Agree they spend too much time watching whats behind them and hug the centreline to death ,Had one loser in a x5 beamer slow right down when i approached after overtaking at a legal speed in a passing lane just cause the lane was ending then he drove like a twat and when I went to overtake him legallyafter indicating he sped up and kept me on the otherside of the road.I dropped the hammer on him and blew his flashy overpriced peice of junk to the weeds.torque rules .yeehah

We killed 314 on the roads in the last finicial year. We have approximately 1700 road policing staff including support staff, non didicated area traffic units, dedicated commercial vehicle units and management.
We had 65 murders in the same time. The police ellocate over 7000 staff to general policing. Seems to be a bit of a figure imbalance there. Some will say small crime is not murders, non fatal crashes do not figure in my reasoning either.
Next debunking of the revinue collecting, 1700 staff cost more to run than they recovered in fines (which policing doesn't see anyway) every year. Road policing runs at a loss hence the subtancial funding cuts for the last few years.
Next, if the police/government make so much revinue out of speed, why were so many speed detection units removed from police vehicles and not replaced! Over 400 units were quite pubilicy removed yet if speed detection was such a money spinner surely an extra 400 would have been fitted.

Fighting fire with fire doesnt always work phalanax.
Ive been to a few bad crashes as a towie,we used to have our yard and workshop full of written off cars at the end of roster weekend,i dont miss those days at all, take a different approach next time.

I emailed my local mp 5 months ago and got a letter back going on about safety bla bla bla.Its just a total rort like everything elsein this country.

modie61, Jun 4, 8:17am
Time to change countries is it austin gtir !

berg, Jun 4, 8:20am
Read my last post and show me all the facts and figures that show this rort. Also talk to cops who have had their speed detection equipment removed, their cars taken off them, their maximum kms per month restricted, their budgets cut by 15% in the last two years and their rosters changed to very unsociable hours.
I still think its a self imposed tax (don't do dumb shite don't have to pay) and as your chances of getting caught are so damn low (honestly, they are) just take it on the chin if genuinely caught or defend it if you think you have a case.

phalanax, Jun 4, 8:20am
No I did the right thing I couldnt gamble on him allowing me back in.I had to think of theoncomings.Erratics in a situation such as this are not too be given an inch.I have zero demerits and dont toy on the roads.

Some drivers are just plain thick.or blind.they lack the forward vision that some driving demands.ever notice how many folk get stuck behind the stopped roadworks truck with the big flashing arrow thats clearly visible from about 400 metres yet they are there because they lack the depth perception.or are just so thick skulled and ignorant that they expect higher speed traffic in the correct lane to stop and pile up to let them in cause they think they own the road.

phalanax, Jun 4, 8:34am
Then theres the im so cool drivers with an arm out the window .the time it takes to get that hand back on the wheel could mean the difference between life and death.or how about the dark sunnies that only a welder should wear.its broad daylight and theyre in the middle of the night visibility wise.then theres the boomboxers that are lost in a musical void.nope as far as im concerned its take no prisoners.

phalanax, Jun 4, 8:51am
Go out on the motorway or the open highway drive at 100 kms max speed and notice how every car passes you.ive done it .drove to Marsterton from Auckland about a thousand cars overtook me.lol. and im driving a v8 dead on 100 ks all the way. What do they think.you lack horsepower.lol.No its a myth that kiwis drive to the law.I get twits in subarus rotors and skylines trying to edge me into flooring it.Holdens and falcons that tailgate and then pass and go slow trying to rark you into a sprint.its pathetic how much some folk think of there cars.and whats more is how green they really are roadwise.too much xbox.lol.Good drivers dont have big dents in there cars or flashy mags.blah blah mufflers or whatnots they have cars theyve owned for years and ride the outer line.they dont worry about cops cause theyre not breaking the law.

phalanax, Jun 4, 9:10am
If the cops put unmarked cars of different makes models and years on the roads they would have a field day.lol.Baddest times to be on the road in my mind are when the drunks are about.after the concerts sports events leaguerugby on sky or whenever the pubs close.try and get to where your going before these things finish.especially at night.

modie61, Jun 4, 10:05am
Mmm your in a bad way matey, ever thought of pulling over and giving yourself a rest for a couple of minutes !

stusowry, Jun 4, 10:26am
Finally someone talking sense. Key word was "inapropriate" speed. Speed doesnt kill. Crap drivers or inattention kills. Sure the faster you are going when something goes wrong the bigger the mess. So why is the speed limit not 40kms/hr. Why is my car capable of doing in excess of 220kms/hr. It's not hard to stay within a lane on a NZ highway, christ, they are wide enough. It's almost never the cars fault and is never speeds fault. The fault is with the driver.
