Hi guys, have just been told our legnums transmission in on it's way out. Quote for fixing is about 4 k and the mechanic advised me to go and trade it in rather than fixing, someone suggested to get a 2nd hand gearbox and put it in, but is it really worth it!

Good second hand gear boxes are hadr to find and expencive because the transmissions are notoriuos for breaking and there are very few good ones available. Get rid of it before it is totaly worthless.

what is it doing exactly! Which model and what engine! ie 1.8 2WD, 2.5 V6 4WD etc.

It's a bit rough going from neutral into drive makes like a thud sound and it slips going into 3rd gear and revs once it's in. The rego sticker says 2.5 ST-R

Agree with poster above, had one of these spent thousands and it was still a pig. Abandon ship!

I guess you've checked the obvious like transmission level! Low fluid could cause thumping and slipping.
