2002 Mitsi Diamante leaking onto floor?

gunhand, Jun 19, 6:00am
We have a 02 VR4 diamante at work at the mo with a water leak somewhere that saturates the passanger front carpets. This is the third time we have hada go at it and now its just kinda annoyng not being able to find it. Theres no obvious leak to be seen or water marks. We have sealed everything that looked remotely like the problem includeing some areas that looked like the culprit.
The car is in good nick. So just wondering if these have a problem someone may have dealt with.
Next step is remove the dash.

Have you checked the aircon drain, they sometimes block and cause water inside

Check your coolant level, if it's low you're going to have a leaking heater core. alternatively check the colour of the water on the floor pan, if it's the same colour as coolant then it's heater core.
The heater core can be a dash out job or it can be much simpler. I'm not sure how major that job is on your car

edit - #2 suggested another likely cause too!

Will check that tomorrow.

I would hope the owner would have said he was using water LOL, but it is clean water and you cant smell it, apart from that wet smell.

Are you sure there is coolant in the cooling system lol.
Ah that's a promising sign, seems unlikely to be the heater core then! Even check the wiring loom running from the door into the car, if any aftermarket wiring has been run poorly, it can create a leak into the cabin

Actaully it has had a side window replaced on that side so maybe the wiring could have been played with. But theres no sign of water marks you get when they dribble anywhere around the door. Its as dry as.

air con drain also. open the bonnet and check in the corners at the lower windscreen edge to see if tose drains are blocked too

Had this problem in a Honda, Couldnt find a leak round the screen for love nor money. But when the window was taken out it was very obvious. Rust never sleeps!

Windscreen. Is it the factory screen! spray soapy water around the outside and blow compressed air around the inside edge. It will blow bubbles if it leaks. Most likely screen or leaking in the inner guard

Its a very common problem for the heater core to leak in them, they will also get coolant in the trans/abs ecu too which is under the core. Mitsi started fitting covers over the ecu to stop this happening.

Actually thats not a bad idea at all that one. Will give it ago as well.

Check the drains at the bottom of the door, I have seen this before and when the plastic sheeting inside the door is not present. Like when someone did work on it or put some new speakers in, it can leak down from the bottom of the door guard. Check the doors don't feel heavy, it may not be the case but check everything. Good luck.
