Akitas are difinately not illegal to own in NZ.-I think they might be in some states in Oz! I got mine free to good home as a 3 year old, and he has been absolutely wonderful since. He is 9, neutered, microchipped, socialised.In Japan they are used as police dogs, and they are also the Japanese national treasure-like our kiwi. Watch "Hachiko" for the holywood version :-)
