Good idea, ride in style at a 1/3 of the cost

It will never work, there economy or running figures have not been taken over the life of the vehical, So new batterys and winding of motors etc have not been taken into account ,, so by the time you wear one of those out and sell it or convert to petrol you will be out of pocket by a few dollars. And what use is it if the power is coming from a coal powered power station anyway. The day the International airlines are using electric motors then I might support the Idea.

About wot!

Sounds great until you consider that electric cars actually require far less maintenance than petrol ones.

Its one thing to run a rubbish Prius with a petrol and electric motor and batteries to maintain for little economy advantage. Its quite another to run a dedicated electric car, especially if its just for a work commute and other shorter runs.

Im all for electric cars.Im not sure if the Commodore is the right vehicle for it though- Large open road cruisers will be the last bastions of internal combustion powered cars where range is paramount. Better to put them in cars that live their lives in the city near re-charging infrastructure and with shorter trips to begin with.
The Tesla Type S is a sexual car.I think that will revolutionise luxury cars to be honest, as long as it isn't too hindered by range (say 600 kms from a charge)

petermcg, Jul 22, 3:17am
Thats an interesting point, how much for a fill,,, and easy to steal a charge of someone.

petermcg, Jul 22, 3:24am
OK how about this then, we all know it is cheaper to make your own electricity, and it is being done around the world with wind solar and water,,, but it is also cheaper to make your own electricity if you use a diesel generator,,, so if you use the theory that the locomotives use (diesel electric) then you should be able to have an electric car with a small generator in the boot. Thats if you are correct in saying that the electric car is more economical than the other options, (over the life of the car)

Lol just imagine u have hunded imployees all plug in when get to work or have party at home all guests need plug in thers cars lol .taxis plug ponts on the ranks!

They test these things with brand new batterys and motors,, chuck away half the car to reduce weight and drive around with one person in the car, Some of todays modern mini cars with petrol power and fuel manegment, if they were detuned to the minimum requirements like an electric car they would out perform electritity,,, what happened to diesel prices whem we started running our cars and central heating units on it,, what about LPG prices when we started converting our cars,, its going to be expensive electric bill for everyone not just those with giant slot cars. Just one faulty charger and bang goes a battery.
