Landcruiser 1HD-T engines

I believe these engines had a history of big end bearing failures.
Anyone had experience of this or can suggest what's involved in checking
if an engine is running the suspect bearings! I was thinking maybe an oil analysis or can the sump be dropped and a bearing cap removed by a garage to physically check! My engine has 196,000km and the bearings haven't been replaced as far as I know and unsure as to whether I'm being paranoid or not.

low oil presure at idle is usually a give away, check it with a guage into the block somwhere, they can also wear the oil pump rotors too,if its not rattly sounding, and the oil pressure guage isnt just about at the bottom of its range with the engine hot,its probably ok,mine (years ago)had low pressure, bearings fine, pump rotor worn.

I think alot of car dealers that were selling these had the big ends replaced as a matter of coarse just incase. Its not a big job for a garage to do. If your worried just get them changed for piece of mind, then it will do another 200,000km anyway.
