i want to change the fuel filter in my 1993 toyota carona do i have to bleed the fuel system like a diesel

If is fuel injected it will retain significant pressure when it is not running.
Be wary of petrol spray in the peepers.
You must use the correct type of filter.

As above - best practise is to disable the pump and let the car run till it stops so to relieve pressure in the system . but as long as you are aware and it isn't near any hot sources (exhaust etc) most generally just crack them off and let the pressure run out . Petrol is handy for cleaning the work floor underneath as well!

Just leave the key in the on position for 5-10 seconds before cranking, the pump should build pressure up enough for it to start no problem after that. Otherwise you could be cranking for a while to get it started which is just extra wear on the starter etc.

Oh and as above said, make sure you get the right filter!
