02 VX Commodore whistling

From one of the tensioner pulleys or the water pump.Has anyone had the same problem!

The bearing will be on its way out. Either use a home made stethoscope (the old long thin screw driver trick), or beg steal or borrow one and you will be able to have a better listen to the bearing to isolate and identify the noise.

Have a listen to the other idlers as well to see how different the noises are, you will soon pick up which one is making the dramatically different noises.

You could use a long bit of vacuum or fuel hose too.

don't beg borrow or steal ( or buy) a stethoscope, they tend to have ear plugs on the ends which we automatically place in our ears

and then push the other end down amongst moving mechanical parts to 'listen' to things like bearings and idlers etc

then drag ourselves off to A&E to get our ear re-attached and our face stitched back together when the end of them gets caught in the fan blades and drags us face first into the top of the engine

LOL its a V6 VX commodore being discussed here, the fan is electric, is a considerable distance from the front of the engine and is very well shrouded. Pretty hard to get tangled up in it I'd have thought.
