Are you sure it's not a wheel bearing! Does the noise get louder when you swerve a bit briskly around a corner!

The diff should still be fine at that mileage. I'd be suspecting a wheel bearing.

Could be either, bearing failure in both the diff heads and axle shafts were big problems in 99-06 Couriers, many didn't get out of warranty before the bearings gave up. Water contamination and thus corrosion of the outer bearings was quite common. The usual stethoscope tests for these problems should be carried out.

I'd say wheel bearing , changed a mates one last week, it was knackered.

The test for a wheel bearing is very simple, you drive down the road and swerve from side to side. If the noise gets louder, it's a wheel bearing. If the noise stays much the same while swerving, but gets loader when you put your foot on and off the throttle, then it will be the diff.
