Are you sure it's not a wheel bearing!
Does the noise get louder when you swerve a bit briskly around a corner!

mugenb20b, Oct 21, 10:32pm
Or checked.

reeb, Oct 21, 10:33pm
got a qoute from a garage to get fixed $1500

mechnificent, Oct 21, 10:49pm
The diff should still be fine at that mileage. I'd be suspecting a wheel bearing.

franc123, Oct 21, 11:10pm
Could be either, bearing failure in both the diff heads and axle shafts were big problems in 99-06 Couriers, many didn't get out of warranty before the bearings gave up. Water contamination and thus corrosion of the outer bearings was quite common. The usual stethoscope tests for these problems should be carried out.

i would look if there is oil in the diff now!

m16d, Oct 21, 11:51pm
There should be plenty of Couriers at the wreckers by now. Go get a second hand one.

I'd say wheel bearing , changed a mates one last week,
it was knackered.

mechnificent, Oct 22, 3:12am
The test for a wheel bearing is very simple, you drive down the road and swerve from side to side. If the noise gets louder, it's a wheel bearing. If the noise stays much the same while swerving, but gets loader when you put your foot on and off the throttle, then it will be the diff.
