Title says it all. Checked everything, spark plugs are new and there are sparks. Fuel pump working, used device that checks for fuel pressure, it passed. Car broke down in traffic, started once after, hasn't started for 2 weeks. Battery seems ok. Radio, indoor car lights working. All ignition lights go off after ignition start. Tried to reset computer by unplugging battery leads, leaving them off for 10 minutes, and reattaching it. No difference. The car is almost about to go.

Yep title says it all: VW

:)

Might be a visit to your local auto sparky I would say. At a guess it started up in limp home mode to get you home. Could be a number issues that would be hard to diagnose over the internet.

well disconecting the battery does squat on a vw .
Do you got a check engine light on the dashbord! on when it died!

intrade, Nov 16, 6:12pm
what engine and how long since it had its sparkplugs changed!

batman4321, Nov 16, 6:16pm
(AEB engine) 4 Cylinder / 1.8 litre. All spark plugs were replaced with new ones after breakdown.

satans_child_nz, Nov 16, 6:19pm
ecu not opening injectors at it should! maybe try replacement ecu

intrade, Nov 16, 6:22pm
Wheredid you buy this car from!

batman4321, Nov 16, 6:22pm
It could be fuel problem because it did break down while it was going.i.e. the engine wasn't getting the fuel to power it.

intrade, Nov 16, 6:23pm
dont be stupid satanschild its not a mitsubishi.

batman4321, Nov 16, 6:23pm
car fair. 5 years ago.

wimwom, Nov 16, 6:25pm
Obviously, the answer then would have been simple.put some fuel in it.

splinter67, Nov 16, 6:27pm
Take it to a vw mechanic dont listen to the clowns on here that dont know a thing you cant diagnose this problem over the internet

00quattro00, Nov 16, 6:28pm
omg some people come it with some stupid ideas, crank angle sensors are usualy the main culprit, only buy a genuine from giltraps, same price as the shit chineese ones, but scan it first and all will be revealed

batman4321, Nov 16, 6:30pm
Here are some codes from OBD 2 computer

p1559 - vagcom

"not recognising throttle valve settings" - part name: J338 / code name: 17967

skyblue17, Nov 16, 6:34pm
Fuel pump relay!

intrade, Nov 16, 6:36pm
na the position sensore of the gas pedal either the one on the engine or the one on the gas pedal by the sound.

intrade, Nov 16, 6:37pm
so thats the code you read out!

batman4321, Nov 16, 6:38pm
No. Plenty of fuel getting to injectors.

splinter67, Nov 16, 6:39pm
Where is jazz when you need him earth to jazz come in jazz

batman4321, Nov 16, 6:40pm
Yes. That's all it says. It says something about basic settings. We tried to reset it.Grey area for us.

v8power, Nov 16, 6:42pm
Surely a TPS fault would have it's own code!
I'm leaning towards throttle valve (trottle body) output voltage incorrect. ECU takes paramaters from both trottle body and TPS, if sense voltage doesn't match ECU logs fault code and as this is a command system limp home is initiated.

I could be wrong though but thats my guess

00quattro00, Nov 16, 6:43pm
They dont have one on the pedal

splinter67, Nov 16, 6:43pm
ring the vw people playing with things you dont know about can be very expensive and you could make a easy job into a major overhaul

00quattro00, Nov 16, 6:44pm
It should still start even if the throttle body is unplugged
