So a mate just got her car failed on a rack end and power steer belt.
The guys quoted $308 to replace both of them. BNT has the rack end at $36 and the belt around $35. does $240ish seem an excessive amount of labour! whats that about 3 hours!

depends but yea sounds bout right what about a wheel alignemet if thats in the 308$ also then it be cheap, as you got to do a wheel alignement after changingthe rack end.

Rack end: $36 P/S belt: $35 Wheel alignment; $75 Labour: 2 hours tops @ $80/h (!), which would make it $160, so $300 odd is about right.
Although, if you are clever, there is a way of changing an inner rack end without altering the wheel alignment.

Its in the ballpark. Some of these big name tyre shops are cheeky enough to charge $90 for full wheel alignment, which amounts to a spotty 18yo who has had a one day training course spending ten minutes adjusting the toe and nothing else. Ask him to itemise the invoice if you think that charge might be excessive.
