Toyota Surf's

vr4_legnum, Jan 21, 7:24am
So who here can tell more about Surf's!

It a 1992 Surf, done around 210,000kms, 3000cc v6 manual, It on 31/10.5x15 mud tyres. Look to be ok condition from photos

How much would you say it be worth! And what kind of things should I look out for!

Cheers of any help

Check for rust at the bottom of the doors. The 3.0 litre V6 is a gutless unreliable pig. Surfs are otherwise really good vehicles, but pricey.

Cheers for that

What are like on fuel! If I get it will be doing around 40-50kms a day.

Don't even go there, its hard to think of a worse vehicle for a commuter. The engine is the same as the Camry of the era that Toyota adapted to fit the heavier Surf and detuned it at the same time to produce less power (duhhh). Blown head gaskets due to block corrosion is the nastiest of its bad habits and is difficult to fix, changing things like starter motors is also absurdly difficult and time consuming, the layout of the engine wiring is also a pig if the engine ever had to come out. Many, despite seeming to go OK have also suffered from Toyota Slob Syndrome and have gone years without coolant, brake fluid and trans oil changes and have been chugging around with plugged up radiators that eventually will kill them. Do you really want one of these in your life!

14L / 100kms. 2.4 diesel will get you 10L / 100kms.

splinter67, Jan 21, 8:06am
Sorry dude but your dreaming if you think they will do 14l to 100km thats what toyota hope they might do but in the real world not a show

7of9, Jan 21, 8:28am
My 88 2.4T averages under 10L / 100km on a trip

What are you going to do with it!
Are you actually going to be doing any proper offroading on a regular basis!

00quattro00, Jan 21, 8:32am
Toyota = most reliable vehicle ever. It will never break down and will be cheap to run

vr4_legnum, Jan 21, 8:41am
Ummmm that has kind put me off, think be better staying with mighty vr4.
Cheers

vr4_legnum, Jan 21, 8:42am
No won't be going offroad at all, Only use it to get to work and back, going away ect

trucks are rarely cost effective when they are petrol

thejazzpianoma, Jan 21, 10:05am
Iwould be hard pressed to think of a worse vehicle for this purpose. Grossly over priced, gutless, thirsty, poor handling, expensive to maintain. the list goes on.

You can buy a properly decent vehicle that's over 10 years newer and quicker but with half the fuel consumption for what they want for those old Surfs.
