See its not necessarily the high speed runs that might catch you out.I suspect its the complacency after doing those 300kph runs that nearly kills you.

280 (speedo indicated, so probably 250ish real) on the ZZ-R1100, lots of concentration needed, and to be honest a bit scary on crappy NZ roads where we live, no fun really. Getting to 250 etc at Manfield its as smooth as silk.
Much more enjoyable having a "spirited" ride through some curves with the odd blast down a short straight. Although hardly ever happens now due to needing my license!

I did about 165 on a CBR250 years ago.Was getting mad speed wobbles, had to back off.Hectic stuff.

Great thread although some of the claims (particularly 2up) remind me of some of my own fishing stories!

230 2 up gsx r 750 hauraki plains

Did 260 uphill on mine, a '92 model. Those bikes are so easy to go fast on when they'll do 110km or so in 1st gear and 170 in second. with another 4 gears to go.

Back in '89 managed to hit 285 km/hr on straight road on my ex race bike Yammy FZR1000. Had watery eyes from the wind-force on my Shoei even with my chin on the tank. Great machine to ride and get the adrenalin pumping. Oh the days.

In 1982 and 1983 I regularly reached 180km/hr on my 77' Suzuki GT380 between Waipu and Whangarei, was all fun until it started loosing power and I knew it was time to pullover and let it cool down before the centre cylinder siezed. Great thing about the aircooled triple was once it cooled you were away again.

Only 170k, CB350/4 (speedo likely reads a bit high)

craigs_workshop, Mar 11, 4:38am
240+ 2up isnt hard on a big bore

trogedon, Mar 11, 4:42am
I got up to 93kph on my bicycle going down Three Mile Hill in Dunedin. My max. in Auckland is 73 down Tunnel HIll Waitakere.

wilgil, Mar 11, 4:51am
215km/hr on my XN85 Suzuki Turbo, on the way to Akaroa. I had just buttoned off, and was down to 115 when a cop appeared and flashed his lights at me - he felt that I might have been going too fast for the conditions, but let me off anyway. Good thing he didn't see me just half a minute earlier. In those days i was getting pulled over all the time - mostly for the cops to check the bike over - it was a good looker.

I had 78 on tunnel hill on Fri and 75 on wairere red sat.Scarey really wearing bugger all.

i was on the Autobahn in Germany doing a tour or Europe with some mates. Well I was lying down on the tank with the throttle wound back to the stop on my GPZ900R. so thats about 155mph(248kph). my mate stuart came past me like i was going backwards on his de restricted ZZR1100.
theres the 200mph club in England. You have to do the M25 in an hour,

sr2, Mar 11, 5:29am
I'm not saying it's not possible, it's just pretty hard hanging on with a pillion over 200K!

richynuts, Mar 11, 5:45am
Yeah had the same thing going through the lindis pass, I passed a row of cars doing about 180km/h the last car was a cop which I didn't see in the row as there was a campervan behind him. I just buttoned off just as I passed him and pulled over straight away .the cop stopped and checked over my bike (GPX750) and license then told me to slow down as he thinks I was doing in the excess of 120 lol, very lucky day!

I had my Blackbird up to some pretty crazy speeds both on and off the track, probably the fastest run would have been at the Whenuapai Air base (It's a long story). To be honest that bike had such seriously long legs that even looking at the speedo got pretty low on the list of priority's!

danchop, Mar 11, 10:15am
back in the day i traded my suzuki mudbug for a black piper special and got up to about 230 with my mum on the back on ruakaka straights

Are you sure that wine hasn't turned into vinegar by now.

trogedon, Mar 11, 3:21pm
Good on you. You probably weigh a bit more than me! Lycra - not the best safety material.

splinter67, Mar 11, 3:27pm
Play stations don't count

tazcsv, Mar 11, 3:42pm
Depends on the bike i guess, iv been 2up on a cbr600 and we hit 260 on the speedo and the bike still felt good

meathead_timaru, Mar 11, 3:54pm
You've got a real twist in your knickers, following me around posting because you made a fool of yourself in the other threat with your inability to think. Poor diddums!

rednsr, Mar 11, 4:53pm
Cracked 220kmph down the back straight away at pukekohe on my old NSR250. I thought I was going well, until the big guys shot past me like I was in neutral.
240 on my vtr1000
