What car! I wouldn't take a 1980's Toyota Starlet to a Maserati specialist nor a Maserati to a good back yard Starlet specialist. Its not just their ability, it is the potential for having common spares in stock without charging you for their time driving down to Repco/BNT etc.

I used Bridgestone Select just last week for my Toyota on Wairau Road. It was just a service, but got a heck of lot more than expected. I'd definitely go back there. As far as repairs to an engine would go, I'd have no idea how they perform.

+3 for Manon & Butler in Barrys Point Rd (Bruce & John are legends)otherwise Terry Grubner motors in Enterprise st Birkenhead (Darryl is one very good mechanic and he's honest).
